Foundation for the Rule of Law's TV Studio Wins Documentary Film Competition

July 20, 2024.

We are delighted to announce that our TV studio, "Foundation for the Rule of Law," which is part of the "Parliamentary Club of Non-Governmental Organizations" charitable foundation, has become one of the winners of the Documentary Film Laboratory competition organized by MDF with the support of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Czech Republic!

We were selected from nearly 80 applications for the program, out of which the competition commission chose five media outlets that will realize their documentary ideas with the support of mentors and consultants over the next four months.

We are proud to be part of this project and to have the opportunity to create a documentary film that will be presented at an offline event. Congratulations to all the participants on this excellent opportunity, and we look forward to interesting and significant works that will highlight socially important issues.

Our filming team has already met with the organizers at a one-day seminar. During the event, they got to know each other and presented their ideas for future short films to be created within the program. The presentations were held in a discussion format, where each participant could share what they would like to learn during the program to better convey their ideas.

Anastasiia Dobriak, the editor-in-chief of the media outlet "Zmist" and a participant in the Documentary Film Laboratory, shared that the offline event provided guidance on filmmaking, mastering and organizing work, and legal aspects.

"Meeting with colleagues showed us that our topic is important not only for our region. We felt the support and willingness of other participants to help each other. At this stage, we wanted to understand the framework we are in and whether we are moving in the right direction. And we were convinced that we are not in our own bubble," said Anastasiia Dobriak.

After the presentations, workshops were held by leading experts in the field of documentary filmmaking. Serhii Zhulin, the chief director of regional broadcasting at "Suspilne," spoke about the importance and nuances of revealing characters in documentary films. Kateryna Feleniuk, the executive producer of the external production department for socially impactful content and co-productions, explained how to build a script and structure a film. Rustam Mamedov, a cinematographer, lecturer at the Department of Photographic Art and Cinematography at the Kharkiv State Academy of Culture, and creative producer at "Suspilne Broadcasting," shared insights on how filming and editing can convey the idea of a film.

Stay tuned for our updates, where we will tell you more about our idea and other media participating in the project.
